The cultural association ArchiTuned is glad to present the first edition of the Venice Architecture Short Film Festival, which will run from the 1st to the 5th of September. The event is organized with the patronage of the City of Venice and in conjunction with the Venice International Film Festival.

For this edition, entitled Living Together Again, ArchiTuned has launched a competition. On the occasion of the Festival, a selection of short films on architecture will be presented, which includes short documentaries, docu-films, animations, experimental films by international authors. Beside the screening of the short films from the competition, the program includes the presentation of a cinematographic review of films, curated by Beka & Lemoine, directors, producers and publishers, two of the foremost architectural artists working today. Their work focuses on experimenting with new narrative and cinematographic forms in relation to contemporary architecture.
The program will unfold during 5 days of free screenings in some of the most characteristic locations in the city of Venice: the Giardini della Marinaressa, the Cloister of San Francesco della Vigna and the Venice Pavilion at the Giardini della Biennale.
Cinema will be the preferential medium and language, whilst Architecture and the public spaces of the city of Venice will convey the message, they become the frame and place to meet, reflect upon a wide range of topics close to the community and to the architects themselves. Architecture itself will be investigated and questioned as a fundamental instrument that influences and shapes our habits, our future, the sense of community we are building everyday living together our spaces.
The selected films presented will explore different visions on contemporary architecture with a particular focus on themes such as living in the cities, the landscapes, the use and regeneration of public and open spaces, the sense of neighbourhood, how we create and define a sense of community and how we share and live within those frames. 
The variety of the different spaces and locations represented through the videos will reflect the diversity of perspectives and visions on the role of architecture, the use of public spaces and the social, geographic, cultural and political contexts featured within them. The works will tell a narrative of spaces, of cultures and their expressions, of the needs of citizens and tourists alike, of urban contexts, being them real or idealized scenarios to take inspiration from.
The competition includes an official award for the short film winner of the 2020 edition which will be awarded by the association ArchiTuned in collaboration with a jury of experts and professionals from the world of architecture and cinema.

VASFF

It’s a film festival dedicated in its first edition to architecture, entirely conceived and curated by the members of the ArchiTuned cultural association. The Festival is an initiative aimed at creating a new cultural voice for the city of Venice, wanting to generate new connections and exchanges with a strong civic vocation and, by involving the local community, encouraging international collaborations.

Dal 1 al 5 settembre 2020 si terrà la prima edizione del Venice Architecture Short Film Festival organizzato dall’associazione culturale ArchiTuned, con il patrocinio del Comune di Venezia e in concomitanza con il Festival Internazionale del Cinema La Biennale di Venezia.

Per quest’edizione, intitolata Living Together Again, ArchiTuned ha indetto un concorso. In occasione del Festival verrà presentata una selezione di cortometraggi sull’architettura, che include brevi documentari, docu-film, animazioni, filmati sperimentali di autori internazionali.  Oltre alla proiezione dei corti oggetto del concorso, il programma prevede la presentazione di una rassegna cinematografica di film d’autore, curata da Beka & Lemoine, un duo di artisti, registi, produttori ed editori. Il loro lavoro si concentra sulla sperimentazione di nuove forme narrative e cinematografiche in relazione all’architettura contemporanea.

Saranno 5 le giornate di proiezioni gratuite in alcune delle location più caratteristiche della città di Venezia: i Giardini della Marinaressa, il Chiostro di San Francesco della Vigna e il Padiglione Venezia presso i Giardini della Biennale.

Il cinema diviene linguaggio e strumento prediletto per comunicare e riflettere su argomenti vicini alla comunità e agli architetti stessi, mentre l’architettura e gli spazi pubblici della città di Venezia diventano il luogo per incontrarsi. L’architettura stessa viene messa in discussione, diventando strumento fondamentale che influenza e modella le nostre abitudini, il nostro futuro, il senso di comunità.

Attraverso diversi luoghi e rappresentazioni dei corti selezionati, si indaga sullo spazio dell’architettura contemporanea, con particolare riguardo ed esplorazione sui temi della città, del paesaggio, dell’utilizzo e della riappropriazione dello spazio pubblico, della socialità e della condivisione in contesti sociali, geografici, culturali e politici diversi. I corti ci raccontano di spazi, di espressioni di civiltà, di bisogni dei cittadini e dei turisti, di contesti urbani e di paesaggi reali e possibili.

Il concorso prevede un premio ufficiale per il cortometraggio vincitore dell’edizione 2020 che verrà consegnato il 5 Settembre dall’associazione ArchiTuned in collaborazione con una giuria di esperti e professionisti del mondo dell’architettura e del cinema.

VASFF

È un festival di cinema dedicato in questa sua prima edizione all’architettura, interamente ideato e curato dai membri dell’associazione culturale ArchiTuned. Il Festival nasce per offrire una nuova proposta culturale per la città di Venezia, reagendo al periodo difficile degli ultimi mesi e mostrando una forte vocazione civica al fine di generare iniziative volte a creare nuovi ponti e connessioni, coinvolgendo il tessuto locale e tenendo gli orizzonti aperti a collaborazioni internazionali.

The first edition of the Venice Architecture Short Film Festival organized by the cultural association ArchiTuned, with the patronage of the City of Venice, the Order of Architects and Landscape Architects of Venice and the European Cultural Center, is heading towards the final evening of 5 September.

With the title Living Together Again - which evokes the question “How will we live together?” launched by Hashim Sarkis for the 17th International Architecture Exhibition, this first Festival edition presents a cinematographic review of films curated by the acclaimed directors and producers Beka & Lemoine, a short film competition and a selection Out of Competition.

The Festival is an initiative aimed at creating a new cultural voice for the city of Venice, wanting to generate new connections and exchanges with a strong civic vocation and, by involving the local community, encouraging international collaborations. 
The short film directed by Stefano Santamato and produced by Paolo Soravia - The Blink Fish for Stefano Boeri Architetti, is awared as winner of the 2020 Venice Architecture Short Film Festival which in conjunction with the Venice International Film Festival, reveals the best cinematographic works dedicated to contemporary architecture.

In one single night, in October 2018, rain and wind tore down 14 million trees, transforming a lush mountain landscape in northern Italy into an apocalyptic ground, with environmental consequences that will affect life in the area for many a decades to come. In Carnia, one of the worst hit areas, 400 of those trunks were retrieved, and from there travelled to Syracuse, opposite end of Italy, where on the Greek theater stage they gained a last role, as mute witnesses of both tragedies.

Troiane narrates the journey of the fir trees from the Friulian woods to the Greek theater in Syracuse, through over 1,500 km, in the alternation of landscapes, colors and sounds. The film traces the main stages of the realization of the scenography of Euripides' Le Troiane, designed for the staging of the tragedy last summer in Syracuse produced by INDA Foundation (National Institute of Ancient Drama) - superintendent Antonio Calbi, implemented in the 2019 season dedicated to the theme “Women and war”, with the direction of Muriel Mayette-Holtz, the technical collaboration of Anastasia Kucherova and the music by Cyril Giroux. In the scenography of the famous tragedy that narrates the events following the defeat of Troy, from the division of women among the winners to the destruction of the city, the architect Stefano Boeri evokes that ancient devastation inspired by the images of the Vaia storm, one of the most extreme and tragic event connected to the climate change.

Volge verso la serata conclusiva del 5 Settembre la prima edizione del Venice Architecture Short Film Festival organizzato dall’associazione culturale ArchiTuned, con il patrocinio del Comune di Venezia, l’Ordine degli Architetti e Paesaggisti di Venezia e l’European Cultural Centre.

Dal titolo Living Together Again, che evoca la domanda How will we live together? lanciata da Hashim Sarkis per la 17. Mostra Internazionale di Architettura, questa prima edizione è composta da una rassegna cinematografica di film d’autore, curata da Beka & Lemoine, e un concorso di cortometraggi.

Il Festival nasce per offrire una nuova proposta culturale per la città di Venezia, reagendo al periodo difficile degli ultimi mesi e mostrando una forte vocazione civica al fine di generare iniziative volte a creare nuovi ponti e connessioni, coinvolgendo il tessuto locale e tenendo gli orizzonti aperti a collaborazioni internazionali.

Il cortometraggio diretto da Stefano Santamato e prodotto da Paolo Soravia - The Blink Fish per Stefano Boeri Architetti, vince il Venice Architecture Short Film Festival 2020 che, durante il Festival del Cinema di Venezia, premia le migliori opere cinematografiche dedicate all’architettura.

In una sola notte, nell’ottobre 2018, pioggia e vento abbattono 14 milioni di alberi, trasformando distese di boschi montani in uno scenario apocalittico, con conseguenze ambientali ed economiche incalcolabili. In Carnia, una delle zone più colpite, 400 di quei tronchi vengono recuperati e partono per il teatro greco di Siracusa, dove, protagonisti della scenografia ideata da dall’architetto Stefano Boeri per Le Troiane di Euripide, diventano muti testimoni di entrambe le tragedie.

Troiane racconta, dal punto di vista degli alberi, il viaggio degli abeti dai boschi friulani al teatro greco di Siracusa, seguendoli per oltre 1.500 km, nell’avvicendarsi di paesaggi, colori e suoni. Il film ripercorre le principali tappe della realizzazione della scenografia de Le Troiane di Euripide, una produzione di Fondazione INDA ( Istituto Nazionale del Dramma Antico) – sovrintendente Antonio Calbi, all’interno della stagione 2019 dedicata al tema “Donne e Guerra”, con la regia di Muriel Mayette-Holtz, la collaborazione tecnica di Anastasia Kucherova e le musiche di Cyril Giroux.

Nella scenografia della celebre tragedia che narra gli eventi che seguono la sconfitta di Troia, dalla spartizione delle donne tra i vincitori alla messa a ferro e fuoco della città, l’architetto Stefano Boeri evoca quell’antica devastazione ispirandosi alle immagini della tempesta Vaia, evento atmosferico estremo legato al cambiamento climatico.
